Families and SDGs as seen by Influencers in Lebanon as part of Bassma/UNIC Beirut's campaign

“Family is not only about blood, family is also about coming altogether, join forces, support each other to really build back better a life, a future and in our case Lebanon,” said Deputy Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Najat Rochdi.

Rochdi, alongside 11 other influencers in Lebanon, took part in the #HealthyFamiliesForHealthySociety social media campaign that kicked off on May 15 on the occasion of the International Day of Families by Lebanese NGO for social development, Bassma, and UNIC Beirut. This campaign is part of an ongoing partnership between UNIC Beirut and ‘Bassma’ launched in 2016 to promote the UN International Day of Families and the SDGs among other UN priorities.

The objective of the campaign is to raise awareness on the importance of empowering families in society; their physical and mental health, food security, education, employment and self-sufficiency in order to help build a healthier community, with a brighter future.

The campaign targets selected people from society who have influence on their surroundings to talk about the importance of families, while linking it to what they do in life in various sectors; hence, each sector corresponds to a specific SDG.

“Our partnership with Bassma dates back to 2016. Throughout these years we have worked on various initiatives highlighting the importance of empowering families to reach self-sufficiency and promoting family bonds within the Lebanese society. We are very proud of this partnership and of this campaign involving a wide range of influencers,” said Margo Helou, UNIC Beirut Director.

In their videos, influencers focused on how the family is a source of love, affection and security and how people should enjoy a good physical, mental and emotional health in order to ensure a better society. They touched on various issues, including sports and education, and how they affect families especially amidst the current crisis crippling Lebanon.

Combating misinformation was also highlighted by one prominent reporter who raised awareness on the need to protect families and children from the spread of misinformation on social media.
