#WorldEnvironmentDay 2023: A two-fold communication plan igniting a spark of environmental awareness for Lebanon & the region

The UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Beirut and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Office for West Asia joined hands again this year and combined their expertise, creativity, and resources to develop a two-fold communication plan that consists of engaging and impactful content that falls under this year’s theme #BeatPlasticPollution to mark World Environment Day: one that focuses on Lebanon under the “One UN” umbrella and the UN Communication Group and another that has a regional perspective.

The plan entails social media assets that engage various target audiences, including youth with the aim to raise awareness and inspire them to take action under #BeatPlasticPollution and #WorldEnvironmentDay.

The collaboration resulted in a fusion of creative audiovisuals and concise messaging. Posts that bring to light facts and figures on plastic pollution and posts that motivate users to take action by directing them to a practical guide, a quiz that tests users’ environmental knowledge and encourages them to participate actively, a vox pop video that highlights youth perceptions of plastic pollution in Lebanon and their suggested solutions to beat it.

The cooperation also extends throughout June and will include teach-in sessions that UNEP will be conducting in this regard in Sidon-Lebanon and UNIC will be filming.
