Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Thursday highlighted the importance of the success of the meetings of the constitutional committee in efforts to reach a political solution that ends the Syrian crisis.

Speaking during a meeting of the Syria's Mini-Constitutional Committee, held through video conference, Safadi stressed the need to intensify efforts aimed to reach a political solution that is accepted by Syrians, maintain the country's unity, preserve its interests, eliminate terrorism, result in the return of all foreign troops and allow the voluntary return of refugees.

The minister reiterated the Kingdom's support to Geir Pedersen, the special envoy of the UN secretary general for Syria, and his endeavours to resume the meetings of the constitutional committee in a bid to realise progress in the Syrian peace process, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
