Kuwait offers to host Yemen peace talks

Kuwait has said it is ready to host Yemen’s opposing factions for UN-sponsored talks aimed at reaching a lasting solution to the country’s years-long devastating conflict.

The offer was made by Kuwait’s delegate to the United Nations Mansour Al Oteibi during a Security Council session on Yemen.

The Kuwaiti delegate told the UN Security Council that his country’s overture is encouraged by recent “positive and constructive indications” for resolving the Yemeni crisis.Image removed.

He cited a power-sharing deal recently signed by the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council (STC), ending months of feuding between them.

Earlier this week, the government returned to Aden from Saudi Arabia.

“This return is a clear sign that Saudi Arabia and other alliance countries are keen on Yemen’s stability and security,” Al Oteibi said, according to Kuwaiti newspaper Al Watan.
