UN officials on Thursday hailed Kuwait's support to the UN Global Compact of Migration, through enhancing international cooperation during the coronavirus crisis.
In a press statement on the occasion of the International Migrants Day, due tomorrow, the officials said that setting standards for organized migration is much needed in the age of COVID-19 pandemic.
Kuwait had ensured health and safety measures for expatriate workers before returning to work, including medical tests and spreading awareness on the risks of the virus, they said.
On his part, representative of UN Secretary General and Resident Coordinator in Kuwait Dr. Tareq Al-Sheikh said the UN plays a big role in facing the impact of the coronavirus in Kuwait.
Meanwhile, head of International Organization for Migration's mission in Kuwait Mazen Abulhassan affirmed the need to protect the more vulnerable category of society and protect people's rights to overcome the pandemic crisis.
