UN Middle East envoy to visit the region

The UN Spokesperson said that discussions continue around the new task force to ensure safe transit for humanitarian shipments of fertilisers and other material via the Strait of Hormuz.

Furthermore, the Secretary-General's Personal Envoy on the Middle East conflict, Jean Arnault, is heading to the region today “and will be able to report more detail soon, likely tomorrow or the day after, on the list of countries that he will visit.”

Mr. Arnault was appointed on 25 March.  The veteran French diplomat has nearly 40 years of experience in international diplomacy, especially in the field of peaceful settlements and mediation.

He has led UN missions in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America, and most recently served as the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on Afghanistan and Regional Issues.
