The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Walid Al-Moualem, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Syria.
The Secretary-General and the Deputy Prime Minister discussed the situation in the country seven years into the conflict. The Secretary-General insisted that the Syrian people have suffered for too long.
The Secretary-General underscored the importance of finding a political solution to the armed conflict according to Security Council resolution 2254 and the Geneva Communique. He called for sustained and unhindered humanitarian access to all Syrians. The Secretary-General also addressed the question of detention and of the protection of civilians in Syria.
