The UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Beirut and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Office for West Asia combined their expertise, creativity, and resources to develop a communication plan under the theme #BeatPlasticPollution to mark World Environment Day.
The two-fold plan consists of engaging content that focuses on Lebanon under the “One UN” umbrella and the UN Communications Group and another that has a regional perspective.
Social media assets will engage target audiences, including youth, with the aim to raise awareness and inspire them to act under the banners of #BeatPlasticPollution and #WorldEnvironmentDay.
The collaboration resulted in a fusion of creative audiovisual products and concise messaging.
The posts give facts and figures on plastic pollution and motivate users to take action by directing them to a practical guide.
There is also a quiz that tests one’s environmental knowledge and a vox pop video that highlights youth perceptions of plastic pollution in Lebanon and their suggestions to beat it.
The cooperation extends throughout June and will include teach-in sessions conducted by UNEP in the southern port city of Sidon. UNIC Beirut will produce a video.
