USJ university in Lebanon organizes first Model UN Conference in collaboration with UNIC Beirut

The collaboration between the UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Beirut and Université Saint Joseph (USJ) marked a pivotal moment in civic education with the launch of the first Model UN (MUN) conference in Lebanon. USJ MUN 2025 brought together 250 participants from four universities and a dozen schools across Lebanon under the theme “Building Foundations,” emphasizing the power of youth to shape the nation's future.

Seven committees explored historical and contemporary issues, spanning around politics, economics, ethics, and even sports, encouraging critical thinking and debate. Designed as an accessible and enjoyable experience, the conference reminded participants of their ability to initiate change and foster a sense of purpose, inspiring them to help make Lebanon a nation where all citizens can thrive with dignity and prosperity.

Gloria Abdo, Director of the Student Life Office, highlighted the significance of the event, saying, "It is a place where ideas take root, where initiatives are born, and where commitment to society is lived daily." Her words captured the essence of the MUN simulation as a reflection of the younger generation’s drive to engage, understand, and act.

UNIC Beirut’s Officer in Charge, Cynthia Darrous, addressed the youth with an empowering message: "The world needs your fresh perspectives, your innovative ideas, and your unwavering commitment to justice and equality. Whether you aspire to be diplomats, activists, educators, or entrepreneurs, your role in shaping a better world is invaluable." She also mentioned that the UN is turning 80 this year, reaffirming its relevance and importance in confronting international challenges.

This joint effort between UNIC Beirut and USJ exemplified the transformative power of collaboration, leaving an indelible mark on civic education and igniting a generation's commitment to building a better Lebanon.
