FAO Joins First Edition of AGRI Lebanon Exhibition under the Patronage of Minister of Agriculture, Celebrating FAO’s 80th Anniversary

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) participated in the first edition of the AGRI Lebanon Exhibition, held under the patronage of H.E. Minister of Agriculture Dr. Nizar Hani. The event brought together farmers, agribusinesses, technology providers, and policymakers to showcase the latest innovations, foster sustainable practices, and drive economic growth across the agrifood sector.

FAO’s participation highlighted its strong partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and other national stakeholders in advancing Lebanon’s agricultural development agenda.

“This exhibition comes at a critical time for Lebanon’s agrifood systems transformation. FAO is proud to join hands with the Ministry of Agriculture and our national partners to empower farmers and their organizations, promote innovations and sustainable practices, and create opportunities for youth and women in agriculture. As we celebrate 80 years of FAO globally, we reaffirm our commitment to working with Lebanon for a sustainable and food-secure future that will contribute to boosting the Lebanese economy” said Nora Ourabah Haddad, FAO Representative to Lebanon.

As part of the opening day programme, FAO Representative to Lebanon took part in a dialogue session titled “The Importance of Registering in the Farmers’ Registry and Social Insurance for Farmers.” The intervention emphasized FAO’s strategic role in supporting the development of the registry thus contributing to transforming the agricultural sector through sustainable policies and programs, as well as the paving the way for the integration of farmers as a recognized profession.

At its dedicated booth, FAO presented a wide range of knowledge products, tools, and initiatives focusing on sustainable farming practices, water efficiency, and support to agricultural cooperatives. The booth welcomed HE The Minister of Agriculture and other government officials, researchers, farmers, and students, providing an opportunity to explore FAO’s contributions to Lebanon since the establishment of the country office in1977.

In celebration of FAO’s 80th anniversary, the booth also featured a commemorative corner highlighting the Organization’s global milestones and impact since 1945. Under the theme “FAO80: 365 Days of Action – Transforming Agrifood Systems for a Sustainable Future,” visitors were invited to reflect on FAO’s legacy and continued engagement in Lebanon.

FAO’s active role in AGRI Lebanon contributed to the wider goals of the exhibition: strengthening public-private cooperation, empowering women and youth, driving investment in local production, and fostering innovation in food and agriculture.

Reaffirming its alignment with national priorities, FAO continues to stand as a key partner to the Ministry of Agriculture, promoting agricultural development, food security, and climate-smart solutions for a sustainable transformation of Lebanese food systems towards a prosperous future.
